We intend to present recent research results and methods; we encourage researchers and practitioners to join and invite them to apply for own presentations for future webinars.

Abstract: Digital Product Passports (DPPs) have been introduced as a regulatory concept by the EU and are increasingly discussed as enablers of sustainable product management and the circular economy. A DPP is a digital record of comprehensive, verified information about a product across its entire lifecycle. It tracks details regarding material composition, supply chain origins, environmental impacts, and end-of-life treatment instructions.

This webinar presents recent research on Digital Product Passports and discusses how they can support sustainability management across the product lifecycle, what can be learned from implementation initiatives, and which challenges remain. The webinar discusses the potential of DPPs to enable better sustainability decisions across companies, value chains, and product systems.

Information on the speakers

Prof. Dr. Rupert J. Baumgartner
Rupert Baumgartner is professor of sustainability management at the University of Graz. His main research interests are corporate sustainability management, sustainability assessment, lifecycle assessment, circular economy and sustainable product development. According to Clarivate he belongs to the top-1% cited researchers globally. Together with his research group he received ERSCP-society’s best paper award 2025.

PhD Josef-Peter Schöggl
Josef-Peter Schöggl is an Assistant Professor of Sustainability Assessment and Management at the University of Graz. His research focuses on the digital circular economy, sustainability and circularity assessment, sustainable product development and inter- and intra-organizational collaboration.

PhD Martina Zimek
Martina Zimek is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Environmental Systems Sciences, University of Graz. Her research focuses on (corporate) sustainability management, sustainability assessment, systemic sustainability approaches, and circular strategies (e.g., in the context of Digital Product Passports).
