The European Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production (ERSCP) community brings together researchers and practitioners committed to advancing sustainability transitions across Europe. It is therefore a pleasure to introduce Dr. Eng. Aida Szilagyi, member of the ERSCP Board, whose work has long contributed to strengthening the link between research, policy, and practice in the field of sustainable production and consumption.

Dr. Eng. Aida Szilagyi is a Sustainability Expert and President of the National Centre for Sustainable Production and Consumption (CNPCD) in Romania. She holds a degree in Chemical Engineering and a PhD in Industrial Eco-Efficiency from the Politehnica University of Timișoara (UPT). With more than 25 years of professional experience, her work spans sustainability consulting, advisory services, and the management of European, national, and international projects supporting the transition toward resource-efficient and circular industrial systems.

Throughout her career, Dr. Szilagyi has supported enterprises and public institutions in implementing sustainability strategies, while contributing to research and applied methodologies in areas such as industrial symbiosis, circular economy, eco-innovation, and resource efficiency. In 2010, she founded the National Centre for Sustainable Production and Consumption, an organization dedicated to promoting sustainable industrial development, circular economy practices, and environmental policy implementation.

Dr. Szilagyi has designed and coordinated numerous national and EU-funded initiatives addressing industrial eco-efficiency, environmental data systems, and regional circular transition frameworks. Her work integrates scientific assessment tools with policy and decision-support mechanisms, enabling regions and industries to monitor and benchmark progress toward circular economy objectives, in line with fair and open-science principles.

In addition to her research and policy work, Dr. Szilagyi contributes to academic capacity building through her teaching activities within the Master’s programme in Green and Circular Economy at Politehnica University of Timișoara, supporting the development of the next generation of sustainability professionals.

Through her role on the ERSCP Board, Dr. Szilagyi continues to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange aimed at accelerating the transition toward sustainable production and consumption systems across Europe.
