History

Until 2002 the ERSCP was known as the ERCP, the European Roundtable for Cleaner Production. At the 8th ERCP in Cork, Ireland, it was decided to rename the conference into European Roundtable for Sustainable Consumption and Production. A list of all Roundtables can be found under past conferences. For a long time the conferences were always organised in an informal way, which was possible by the fact that organisers of a particular ERSCP Conference closely collaborated with the organisers of the previous and next Roundtables. In addition, conferences were embedded in the PREPARE network. During the preparations of the ERSCP-EMSU 2010 Conference in Delft, a need for a more permanent structure emerged and during a meeting of key persons in the ERSCP network it was decided to investigate the feasibility of a ERSCP Society. In a special session at the ERSCP 2012 in Bregenz Austria, it was decided to move on with this initiative, under the condition that it would be a democratic society and that a core group of persons strongly involved in ERSCP conferences and the PREPARE network would be informed and consulted regularly.

The ERSCP Society has been officially established late 2012 and is currently in a process of further development of its website and mobilising its existing network to invite them for membership. The preparations are currently conductedby Arnold Tukker (Leiden University & TNO), Jaco Quist and Renee Wever (both from Delft University of Technology, which will hand over to a democratically elected board later in 2014.
